Description
Wild Strawberry is a versatile, native groundcover, and one of the top wildflowers in North America based on wildlife value. Innumerable birds eat the fruit, diverse insects pollinate or draw nectar from it, and many moths and skippers use it as a larval host. Larval host to nearly 90 native moths and butterflies, it spreads by runners, with white flowers in April followed by small, edible red berries. It may go dormant in drought, but otherwise the foliage will turn a deep rich red in autumn.
